With four Yellow Jersey wins already on the considerable palmares of
Chris Froome, the now 37-year-old,
Israel - Premier Tech rider is determined to write another chapter in his
Tour de France story.
Speaking to Cyclism'Actu, Froome outlined his aims for the 2023 campaign and perhaps unsurprisingly the Tour de France, synonymous as it is with the career of the Brit was front and centre. "To be 100% in the Tour is for me the biggest objective this year," says Froome. "To be as competitive as possible in the Tour de France is once again my dream."
"I'm realistic, I know I can't say that right now. There are other goals first," Froome responds when asked if he believes a fifth Tour de France win is still possible. "The overall in a one-week stage race maybe, like the Volta a Catalunya, or the Dauphiné. But it's always a dream to be on the Tour de France and to fight with the best."
Taking a moment to reflect on a career that will surely see him go down in history as the greatest Grand Tour rider of his generation, Froome reveals the immense pride he has at what he's achieved. "When I started at Barloworld in 2008, my dream was to win a stage in the Tour. So if you had told me that I was going to win all this, I would have said no, it is not possible!" he says. "A young man born in Africa who manages to do all that in a European world, in a sport where the level is very high. I thought that was impossible. I would like it to serve as an example for people who come from countries that don't have a bicycle, like in Europe. I hope it will be an example for them."
