Simon Carr was the winner of the Trofeo Calvia. The first race of the Challenge Mallorca split up early and saw a small group head to the line. From there, the EF Education-EasyPost rider took the win in a sprint against Aleksandr Vlasov.
The 150-kilometer race was expected to explode from early on, and that was exactly what happened. Simon Carr and Pablo Castrillo were part of the day's breakaway, although several riders joined the front of the race and were dropped at different points of the first half of the race.
Halfway through the race the peloton completely split. UAE Team Emirates leading the charge and going on the attack with Marc Soler and Brandon McNulty. With just over 30 kilometers, McNulty and Vlasov joined Simon Carr and created the front trio.
Alberto Bettiol and Alex Aranburu led the chase, but did not have the legs to close the gap. The trio worked relatively well together, but in the final kilometers Aleksandr Vlasov launched a deadly attack which dropped McNulty. Carr bridged across to the gap, and then won in the sprint against the Russian. Vlasov and McNulty completed the podium.
