Rigoberto Urán has for many years targeted the Grand Tours, with great success but never with a win - although he's came close several times. He has shown great form at the recent Vuelta a Espana and in 2023, with a new team leader, he will surely be aiming high.
“That depends on how you are at the moment," Urán told Ciclismo Colombiano when asked on where he would be focusing on the coming season. "Going back to the Tour and the Vuelta, which are the ones I like the most, but the team will tell me that soon."
EF Education-EasyPost, with whom he seemed unlikely but has renewed for two more seasons, have signed Richard Carapaz into the coming years. Although team manager Jonathan Vaughters has not been clear on whether the Ecuadorian would target the Grand Tours, with the team prioritizing exposure in other forms, Urán could be a crucial supporting rider for the Olympic Champion.
If not, he could keep pursuing big wins in the peloton, such as the one he's obtained at the Vuelta this year at Monasterio de Tentudía, followed by a 9th place in the overall classification.
