The ongoing transfer soap opera of Remco Evenpoel seems to have found its final conclusion. Just a couple of days after a frustrated Patrick Lefevere dismissed any talk of a departure, HLN is now reporting Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe have pulled out of discussions for Evenepoel's signature.
"According to our information, the talks about a possible transfer with Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe and another unnamed team have fallen through," begins HLN's update on the Evenepoel situation. "The flirtation of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe with Remco Evenepoel has come to an end. The even more concrete negotiations with another unnamed team, which was a candidate to take over Evenepoel, have also fallen through."
As mentioned, just a few days ago, Soudal - Quick-Step boss Patrick Lefevere publicly denounced the ongoing speculation surrounding his team's leader in words to La Dernière Heure. "A departure is not even an option. Certainly not as long as I do not have a message on my desk from a team asking to talk to Remco," the outspoken Belgian insisted. "I only notice that big brands are knocking on our door. But actually I am tired of the whole history surrounding an Evenepoel transfer. It started four years ago with INEOS. Today it’s Red Bull. Tomorrow it’ll be UAE, right? Those rumours bother me because they don’t contribute to anything. Remember last year that whole saga about a possible merger with Visma… I think everyone is fed up with that now.”
It is worth noting, Evenepoel's current contract runs until the end of 2026 at Soudal - Quick-Step. If, as it seems, Lefevere has confirmed his services until at least the end of that deal, the Belgian will be just turning 27 as the 2027 campaign gets underway and hitting what should be, the peak years of his career.
