UAE Team Emirates are currently dominating the
Tour of Slovenia, however the focus is in the long-term as the team remain cautious over protecting
Tadej Pogacar from the outbreak of Covid-19 infections sweeping through the peloton.
"It's quite stressful. There is nothing we can do. We are trying to isolate ourselves and get through it without further infections," Pogacar said at the Tour of Slovenia. With Diego Ulissi and Marc Hirschi testing positive at the Tour de Suisse the Slovenian may loose some support members for the Tour de France, however with a case within his own bubble, Pogacar himself is at risk.
Teammate Mikkel Bjerg tested positive for Covid-19 before the start of stage three, and it has led the team into a very protective mode as they try to limit the damage. Pogacar has also said that he is no longer taking photographs with fans due to the existing concerns, something that is being replicated across teams who are hinting at the Tour de France.
Team doctor Adrian Rotunno has said the following: "The riders who shared a room with a positive case have had high-risk contact, so in the interest of the rider, the team and the common health, we've decided it's best to withdraw them. It is unfortunate, but the reality is that the virus is still in society and we regularly monitor our athletes to be as careful as possible".
