UAE Team Emirates are dominating the
Tour of Slovenia, and have taken today a one-two win in Celje today after detonating the race in the penultimate climb, with
Tadej Pogacar returning to business as usual.
“As a team we have worked perfectly to keep the situation under control. On the climb, Rafal and I decided to attack together and it was enough to create a margin on the chasers," Pogacar said in a post-race interview. He and race leader Rafal Majka are evidently the strongest climbers in the race, and they went off once again alone in the ascent to Svetina.
He faced some difficulties in the descent, having some heated words regarding his tyres, however the duo made it down intact. "The descent was very slippery, also due to some rain that had fallen; I knew it would be difficult to ride it hard," he said. "Conci recovered well and at that point we knew we had to move intelligently on the last hill."
In the final ascent the Slovenian didn't struggle to drop Conci, who did not have a contract until just some weeks ago, and rode to the eighth win of the season. "It went well, I’m very happy to have got the win," Pogacar concluded. Tomorrow will be the queen stage of the race, where he will be looking to get the stage win once again.
