France and Portugal are two of the big nations that have seen new winners this afternoon in the national championships. Hilly routes marked both nations' events and we see new national champions in Paul Lapeira and Rui Costa respectively.
With over 20 riders (as was the case with Groupama - FDJ), Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale had big responsibilities at the French race and they have fulfilled their obligations. A great season continues and they now have the French colours in their team. Paul Lapeira, a rider who has been having an extraordinary team, has won the road race after an attack together with Julien Bernard and Thomas Gachinard.

In Portugal the circuit in Santa Maria da Feira saw a mix of World Tour and continental team riders go up the road in a race full of attacks. It was a sprint in the final hilltop up to the castle that decided the race, where former World Champion Rui Costa won the road race national title for the third time. Rui Oliveira and Luís Gomes completed the podium.
