National Champion after remarkable weight loss - Raul García Pierna elevates Equipo Kern Pharma to new status

Raúl García Pierna was a socking winner at this week's national championships in the Spanish time-trial, surging through to take his first pro win ahead of serious competition alongside his compatriots.
Equipo Kern Pharma have taken only two wins this season, but both have been in the space of a week as Roger Adrià and Pierna have taken meaningful wins against World Tour competition. They'll now carry the country's colours in the time-trials for a whole year as the 21-year old has a contract until 2023 currently.
Pierna himself has been the subject of an incredible evolution, having seen a picture of his go viral on social media back from 2015 when he was riding as a cadet. Over his junior and under-23 years the Tres Cantos native lost a significant amount of weight and has stormed to be one of Spain's top riders at the time being - with a lot of potential for the coming years.
