Miguel Induraín and Pinarello are in the news at the moment. The Navarrese rider left the Italian brand a few weeks ago after 32 years and a few days ago we learned that he was switching to SCOTT (at least to race the Titan Race).
Well, in the middle of all this change of the five-time Tour de France champion, a fan who has in his possession one of the Pinarello bikes that won the 1994 Grand Boucle has decided to auction it.
The Vélo Pinarello was acquired by the Galarreta family 29 years ago, as the then Banesto team (now Movistar Team) sold the bikes they used to their employees. Thus, the Pinarello in question has been 29 years in a box stored in a garage. Now, it has returned to Paris almost 3 decades later to be auctioned.
"My father is 92 years old. It's very valuable and that kind of 'gets in my way' a bit. We have decided to sell it and let someone else get hold of a jewel," the owner's son told Relay.
Regarding the sale, at the moment the auction is very close to 40,000 euros and is expected to exceed 45,000 euros by Sunday: "When it reached 10,000 euros and got a bit stuck, I asked the director in Spain of the auction company how far it could go and he told me to expect between 25,000 or 30,000 euros". The auction closes on Sunday, April 23 at 19:00 CET.
