Glassdrive/Q8/Anicolor were expected to dominate what many call the queen stage of the
Volta a Portugal, and they delivered as
Mauricio Moreira won atop the final climb after a strong collective performance.
Glassdrive/Q8/Anicolor took control of the peloton throughout the day, controlling with no problem the breakaway that went up the road, setting up their leaders for the final climb. Luís Gomes was the final rider caught, in the first third of the final climb to Serra da Estrela, as the race was blown up.
André Cardoso was the first rider to launch a solo attack, but the dominance of Glassdrive soon became apparent as
Frederico Figueiredo went off the front still in the first kilometer of the climb, then chased down by his own teammate Mauricio Moreira - who had
Luís Fernandes in the wheel.
The duo worked together throughout the whole final climb to expand the gap on the rivals, and in the final sprint Moreira took the win in the sprint, also becoming the new leader of the race. Fernandes finished second with Figueiredo third.
