Mathieu van der Poel wins stage four of Coppi e Bartali

The Alpecin-Fenix rider has been hinting at a possible stage win as he started off his season strong at Milano-Sanremo. Mathieu van der Poel will not leave the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali with empty hands as he's conquered the fourth stage of the Italian race.

The Dutchman attacked the race with 60 kilometers to go in pursuit of the breakaway and was not far off from succeeding in the move. He was reeled in with 10 kilometers to go by a reduced peloton, however he still had the legs to sprint at the end where he took his first win of the season, beating Ethan Hayter and Rémy Mertz.

Eddie Dunbar has retained his lead, and will go into the final day in the head of the race.
