Isaac del Toro soared to an impressive win on stage 2 of the
Tour Down Under, and rode in ochre today. He arrived at the finish safely, but reports on a tense day in the peloton.
"The team helped me all day, which felt very nice. The finale was crazy, but we knew that. We came out okay and healthy, so I think we can call it a great day," the Mexican said in a post-race interview. "This way we are ready for the days ahead." In a day where yesterday's attacker Luke Plapp crashed very hard in the finale, any contender for the overall win could've lost their chances. The 20-year old is aware of that, and
UAE Team Emirates has protected him in search of keeping his ambitions of winning the race alive.
"To be honest, cycling is always full of chaos. So you don't always ride in perfect conditions and you have to try to stay upright, but that's just how it is," he tells. You're still trying to position yourself. Things are a bit different than in my home country Mexico." Tomorrow the peloton rides into Port Elliot in another day that will likely end in a sprint, where he will look to arrive safely once again.
"I feel good and have even been able to enjoy the surroundings here in Australia. I even saw three kangaroos, so I try to enjoy that," Del Toro concludes. "You don't see something like that every day, so I thought that was really cool. And they didn't jump into the peloton, so I'm very happy about that too."
