Alec Segaert wants to tick off U23 ITT rainbow jersey before he starts chasing next goal: "A first professional victory would be a bonus"

While there's no doubt about Alec Segaert being one of the most promising timetrialists in the cycling peloton, there's still one achievement left to add to his palmares, as the Belgian enters his final U23 year. In a chat with In de Leiderstrui, the Lotto Dstny rider makes his ambitions to win the U23 ITT World Championships clear.

"It is a very big goal," he emphasizes, after which he indicates that he will reduce the number of U23 races he rides. "The ambition is indeed to discover as many races as possible among the pros. This mainly concerns the Flemish races, where I hope to be able to take my own chance every now and then."

"Hopefully I can show myself and try something. Maybe I can compete in the final every now and then. A first professional victory would be a bonus, although I don't want to go too fast. U23 races are hardly on the schedule anymore. The World Championships is the only one that is certain for now. A race like Paris-Roubaix could also be possible, although not much can be said about that yet."

Racing with the pros is of course not completely new for Segaert. "Last year I already rode a few races with the pros. But we still have to wait and see who exactly will participate in those races. On the other hand, I don't mind domestique role at all. I am also aware that this will often happen. After all, with Arnaud De Lie we have a real finisher in house. I think it's just going to be a nice change."
