The
Gooikse Pijl saw World Tour competition, and the win was taken by
Gerben Thijssen who continues his progression through the ranks of the fast men field.
"This victory is simply beautiful. A champion like Alexander Kristoff started the sprint for me, stuff of dreams... We executed the plan to perfection," Thijssen said after the finish. The Belgian classic provided an opportunity for the fast men, and after being led out by Alexander Kristoff, the 24-year old wrapped off an well-organized piece of work from the team to take the win.
This was Thijssen's third win of the season, following successes at the 4 Jours du Dunkerque and the Tour de Pologne. He keeps his good run of form over in Belgium with this win, directly beating compatriot Jasper Philipsen in the final sprint.
Thijssen will now take part in the Omloop van het Houtland Middelkerke this coming week where he'll be a prime contender, whilst the attention is over the other site of the planet in Australia for the World Championships.
