"I'm going to do my best, but you can't always control how good you are" - Ide Schelling hoping to overcome injury concerns on BORA-hansgrohe farewell

Ide Schelling has overcome injury concerns to make it to the startline at the Coppa Bernocchi but on his BORA - hansgrohe farewell, the Dutchman is unsure if he can perform to a race-winning level.

"Due to falls and illness, I haven't been able to get out of it lately. I felt good in the Tour of Britain and in the training, but things didn't go my way due to knee problems in the last week and a half," Schelling, who will join the Astana Qazaqstan Team at the end of the season, in a pre-Coppa Bernocchi interview with Cycling Pro Net.

"It's a shame that the shape doesn't come out, because it is there," Schelling continues. "I hope the knee is good enough to perform. There is some improvement, but not as much as I would like. That's life, I'm going to enjoy racing here in Italy and then a trip to China is planned. I'm motivated and looking forward to cycling after a chill summer. I'm going to do my best, but you can't always control how good you are."

Despite the negativity, Schelling is keen on trying to ride an aggressive race. "We will race aggressively, because we cannot gamble on a sprint, with many strong sprinters here who can survive a climb. If it becomes a sprint, it is no certainty that I will be able to finish in the top three, let alone win. More teams will want to race with Van Aert here."
