"I want to end the season on a high note" - Wout van Aert previews potentially successful week in Italy, starting with the Coppa Bernocchi

Wout van Aert's 2024 road campaign is nearing it's end but that doesn't mean there isn't still plenty of opportunity for triumph, starting at the Coppa Bernocchi.

"I want to end the season on a high note with a good week in Italy," van Aert told a GCN journalist before the start of the Coppa Bernocchi in a pre-race interview. "These are three fun races and three chances for a victory. For me it doesn't matter how the race goes, as long as I'm in the leading group in the final."

Often, the Coppa Bernocchi is decided in a sprint finish with the only recent exceptions being Vincenzo Nibali in 2014 and Remco Evenepoel in 2021. "On Sunday I looked at the race and was surprised that every time there was a large group that could fight for the victory. So I'm curious to see how the race will go," van Aert previews.

Van Aert concludes the discussion with a quick word on the much-talked-about merger between Jumbo-Visma and Soudal - Quick-Step. "It's not too bad how we're doing, we're still working on the current season of course. But it does keep us busy, for sure. Everyone is professional enough to complete those matches as they should. There is no stress in our team."
