Soren Waerenskjold is a rider that very much likes the short climbs and packs a very strong sprint. The Norwegian is one of
Uno-X Mobility's weapons for today at
Milano-Sanremo, although he admits that his biggest goals of the spring lay later.
"Definitely true. I've never done a race like this one. I haven't even seen the finish, with the descent, yet. So I'm just trying to do my best and prepare myself for the races that are still to come in Belgium," Waerenskjold said this Friday. "Roubaix is my big goal. That race is flat and suits me better. I'm trying to build towards that in the coming weeks, to gain confidence and also to avoid crashing. Then hopefully, I'll get better and better."
With the experience of former winner Alexander Kristoff in the lineup, Uno-X will have a good idea of how to do this race with the best tactics and Waerenskjold's talent could largely benefit from that. He's won a stage at the Saudi Tour earlier this year in a slight uphill finale, and could aim to do well today - specially if the race is relatively conservative.
"I think I'd be very happy to finish between five and ten. But it's not easy. We'll see," he concludes. "I'm aiming for a top result, but the real contenders for the top five will be closely matched."
