On the day where
Tadej Pogacar shut all the critics who came for blood after his time trial fiasco, another strong performance was overshadowed by the Slovenian. We're talking about breakaway hero of
Criterium du Dauphiné stage 6 -
Alex Baudin, who arrived 6th after a gutsy ride on the final ascent to Combloux.
That UAE Team Emirates - XRG were up to no good was clear from the start when they kept the early breakaway on a very tight leash throughout the stage. While some men like Romain Bardet dropped out from the group when it became evident that GC favourites were after the victory,
EF Education-EasyPost's Alex Baudin didn't give up.
Starting with an advantage of a minute, the Frenchman battled the world's best climbers, but soon a rainbow phantom emerged behind him at a superhuman speed. Baudin, painfully aware of his destiny, has decided to at least get a taste of what it feels like to climb like Tadej Pogacar.
"When I saw Pogacar catching up with me, I couldn't resist grabbing the wheel to see how fast he was! It killed me for two or three minutes," Baudin laughed in a quick response to race organizer afterwards. At the very least, the Frenchman was awarded the combativity prize.
