Having now completed her first season in the colours of Team SD Worx, 24-year-old Lorena Wiebes is delighted by the progress she has made.
“I really liked that transfer," Wiebes reflects in conversation with Wielerflits. "I won less than the year before, but I already knew that when I signed my contract with the team. For me it was especially important that I developed myself as a rider, and I notice that I have taken a huge step forward in that area.”
An impressive sign of her development from pure sprinter to more all-rounded talent, came in September. “That's why I was actually very happy with my second place in the Simac Ladies Tour, on top of the Cauberg,” says Wiebes. “I was able to follow Lotte Kopecky and Kasia Niewiadoma there. I had never achieved anything like that before, and that is currently more important to me than getting more victories.”
“I notice that I increasingly fail if it has been an easy race that ends in a sprint. But on the other hand, that happens so little, over the entire season. For most races you need content to even get around to sprinting, so in that respect I am happy that I am now fully committed to that," she concludes. “I would prefer to continue working on what I have done this year. Continue to take steps in terms of content and assert myself more and more in tougher races."
