Lorena Wiebes took on the cyclocross for the second time this season during the Superprestige in Niel on Saturday. The European gravel champion did not have a fantastic day and eventually abandoned the race early.

"The fact that I appeared at the start here, just like last year, had more to do with the fact that Marie Schreiber also took part here. This way I could benefit from the support of the team. But next time I should choose a course where there is less running," the SD Worx rider tells Veldritkrant. "It wasn't too bad at first, but after I crashed it was actually over right away."

The 24-year-old Wiebes left the extremely difficult race just after the equipment station, which was characterized by mud, rain and misery. "The rain indeed made it much harder than expected. All in all I had a nice day."

Wiebes was also in action at the end of October during the Nacht van Woerden, won by the unapproachable Fem van Empel. However, she does not really prepare for the cyclo-cross races. "I have only completed some endurance training in recent days. Occasionally also on the cross bike and mountain bike. But nothing compared to what we faced here."
