After Finn Fisher-Black took an opening stage win that took even himself by surprise on stage one of the Giro di Sicilia, the UAE Team Emirates rider has now successfully kept hold of the jersey for a further two days. With just one day left, can he take the overall win?
"Today was just a day where I just wanted to keep the jersey for tomorrow," the 21-year-old New Zealander revealed in his post-stage interview. "I wanted to have a crack at the sprint but coming in it was pretty hectic in the last few kilometres before the corner."
Stage three was eventually won by Joel Suter who had started the day in the breakaway. For Fisher-Black however, keeping the jersey was more important than contesting for another stage win. "We were hearing the time gaps like every few minutes in the final and it was closing but not quite fast enough," he says of stage winner Suter.
"We had a lot of guys chasing actually so it was a strong ride from Joel," Fisher-Black continues. "We would have liked to have Diego Ulissi contest the win but it wasn't possible today." Before concluding, "I don't know my ability at this level in the mountains. I think I can give it a shot but we have George Bennett and Rafal Majka as well who also have a chance."
