After having made a good start to the season (2nd in the general classification of the Tour of Oman, including a stage victory), Mauri Vansevenant must have been super disappointed to miss whole spring season with a knee injury (prepatellar friction syndrome).
But good news for the 23-year-old rider, he can resume training. "It's starting to become feasible to train. Now I can train for about two or three hours," said the Belgian cyclist in an interview for Sporza. The Belgian joined Soudal - Quick-Step back in 2020 and he has since proven to be one of the team's most capable climbers.
As the team looks to support Remco Evenepoel in the future, he could prove to be a key piece of the Belgian team. According to early reports, Vansevenant will return to racing at newly-promoted Tour de Hongrie where he'll test his legs in a mountain-top finish of stage 4, while riding in support of Fabio Jakobsen in the sprint stages.
"It's a bit difficult. hope to be able to stay, but it's not for me to decide. Due to the circumstances, I missed the opportunity to prove myself during the spring. The atmosphere is very good and I feel very good in the team. I found my own way. I think I have enough chances anyway, especially in the small races, it's not a problem in the team. And in the big races, I I found my role perfectly," he concluded.
