Remco Evenepoel won Clasica San Sebastian for the second time this Saturday. His first victory was in 2019. His team manager Wilfried Peeters is excited about the upcoming Vuelta a España.
"Hopefully, he will also be top in Spain," team manager Wilfried Peeters told Sporza. He continues, "I think it was an even more beautiful victory. The way Remco pulled the win to himself was a serious number, after all. He rides away from a complete peloton, behind him, the big boys ride around, and still, he arrives with 2 minutes ahead. That's nicer than three years ago."
He rode away from the peloton, leaving some significant riders behind, and arrived with a 2-minute lead. "Whether it was the plan beforehand? We had a good look at the competition beforehand and wanted to make the race hard from the Jaizkibel. We wanted to wear out the peloton with a fast descent. Remco wanted to attack there and see what the situation was. And that's where he went,” said Peeters.
Evenepoel will be heading to spain for altitude training before Vuelta a España. "He will train and sleep at altitude. That way, he can already adapt to the weather conditions," concluded Peeters.
