Tadej Pogacar didn't have the best of days at the
Criterium du Dauphiné's time-trial but little did that matter after one mountain stage. In the first climbing duel in 11 months, the Slovenian put in a masterful performance to decimate the competition in Combloux and take over the race lead.
Pogacar attacked early in the final climb and made the winning difference with relative ease, gaining at the finish a whole minute on
Jonas Vingegaard, whom he now leads by 43 seconds in the overall classification. Florian Lipowitz holds on to third place 54 seconds down.
Remco Evenepoel and Matteo Jorgenson conclude a luxury Top5. Eddie Dunbar, Louis Barré, Paul Seixas, Tobias Johannessen and Ben Tulett complete the Top10 ahead of the race's queen stage. At the time being, there are few signs that the overall classification will escape Pogacar, but the three very long ascents of this Saturday's stage could make it a more difficult challenge.
