Brandon McNulty took three high-level wins at the beginning of the season, including at Paris-Nice, however his recent performances at the
Tour de France have seen him take on bigger ambitions as
UAE Team Emirates look to build him on for the future.
“We always knew Brandon could win on a big level," team DS Mauro Gianetti told Velonews. "But actually now all the world has discovered that we have a great, great, rider in the team. We have a long project with Brandon, we know he is an incredible rider. He has a big, big quality. This week showed exactly how strong he is and his potential for the future".
Although having ridden below his level throughout most of the Tour de France, his surge on the final week saw him put on an incredible ride at Peyragudes, aswell as crucial support in stage 18. Gianetti continued: “What Brandon did that day was something incredible. He had a big morale and satisfaction afterward. This was a big sign for him.”
Continuously riding up the ranks at UAE Team Emirates, the team will be putting more responsibility on him in 2023, with the goal of seeing his potential into 2024. “In the future the plan is for Brandon to become one of the leaders that takes responsibility in stage races. We will start with one-week races and then the big tours," he continued.
“He’s a complete rider. He is a very good climber and very good in the time trial. And he has good recovery day by day. So he has a big potential. And now he’s got to build with calm, without stress, and he’ll be in a good way," he concluded.
