In the penultimate climb of the day action kicked off as
Iván Sosa went on the attack several times but on the steep slopes of the Alto de Seragude Michael Woods managed to keep all attacks under control, always with Alejandro Valverde in the wheel. The rhythm slowed down as Movistar waited for help, tackling a very technical descent but failing to distance Woods in the process until the finish.
In the final climb
Israel - Premier Tech also assisted with the pace as Woods tried to drop Valverde due to the short time gap into tomorrow's time-trial. In the final seven kilometers the Canadian tried several times but couldn't drop the Movistar duo. Their intentions on a sprint became clear as Iván Sosa paced the group until the finish where then Alejandro Valverde took over and just like in Innsbruck 2018, beat Woods in the final sprint.
