Sadly for
Giulio Ciccone, the Italian has been ruled out of the final monument of the year at
Il Lombardia due to the lasting effects of a crash he suffered at
Tre Valli Varesine.
"Not a good news in view of Il Lombardia. Unfortunately, Giulio Ciccone won't be able to participate in the race this Saturday," announced a statement by the 28-year-old's team,
Lidl-Trek on their official X (Twitter) account. "He's still recovering from the crash he had at Tre Valli Varesine, and his injuries are preventing him from competing."
It wasn't for the lack of trying either, the post goes on to reveal that Ciccone had working hard since the crash to try and ensure he would be recovered in time for Il Lombardia, a race he finished fifth at back in 2020.
"Despite receiving physiotherapy and osteopathic treatments, Giulio continues to experience discomfort and severe pain in his pelvis, chest, and lower back," the statement continues. "A brief test on the indoor trainer yesterday showed that he's not yet able to pedal with the necessary intensity. In the coming days, a specialized radiological examination will be conducted to further assess his condition."
