Giulio Ciccone on Volta a Catalunya triumph: "It's one of the best wins of my life and career"

Giulio Ciccone has achieved an impressive victory in the second stage of the Volta a Catalunya after beating in the Vallter 2000 final sprint none other than Primoz Roglic and Remco Evenepoel.

After the race, he dedicated the victory to his Trek-Segafredo teammate Dario Cataldo, who had to abandon yesterday after a hard fall: "I feel good, it's been an incredible day, after we lost Dario Cataldo yesterday and this morning I said I wanted to win to dedicate the victory to him. This is for him today and for the whole team, I'm very happy," he told reporters.

He explained after the win that he was clear that to try to win he had to stick to Roglic and Evenepoel like a barnacle: "It was very fast from the bottom, Bahrain had a great pace, from the beginning, in my mind I had to follow Evenepoel to Roglic and then I gave my best in the 500m, it's one of the best wins of my life and career".

After being able to resist the pace of Remco Evenepoel in the final kilometers he found himself in perfect position. The Italian now sits third in the overall classification, tied in time with Evenepoel and 6 seconds back on Roglic. Tomorrow's summit finish to La Molina will provide the opportunity to create new differences.

About being able to beat the Slovenian in the sprint, he assured that he did not have it all with him after having lost several times against him in Tirreno Adriatico, but that being an arrival after a hard climb, everything is different. "In the last two weeks I have lost many times, especially with Roglic, but after a long climb of more than two thousand meters everything changes and I felt good and gave my best," he concluded.
