All set for #VoltaCatalunya102 stage one 👋 Unfortunately, @LucasPlapp will not start due to illness. We wish our Aussie national champ a speedy recovery.
Egan Bernal finally returns after his knee injury in the Tour of San Juan and he does so today in the first stage of the Volta a Catalunya. Since he couldn't be any other way, he makes him excited.
"I'm very good, super happy to be here, let's see how it goes, evolve day by day and come out of the race with better feelings, that would be ideal," he told reporters this morning at the start of the Catalan race. He was asked by Eurosport if he sees himself as a favorite for the test and his answer, how could it be otherwise, was obvious.
"No, no, no, no, I'm far from competing this week," he responded. "As I said, I stopped 3 weeks after Argentina and I've only been riding for a couple of weeks and no matter how Superman I am, I won't be able to be well, since being realistic. What I am saying is the idea is to start with better feelings, the season is long and there are many races left and the important thing will be to aim for the others".
He will be a headliner for INEOS Grenadiers, but most likely will look to hunt a stage win. "I like this race, I've already done it twice, I know it and I wanted to starting with a WorldTour race to see how the sensations are and a 7-day race also helped me to be able to put kilometers on my body at a WorldTour level and I think it will be fine, we will see the progression," he concluded.
