Georg Zimmermann third in the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race - "I'm very proud of my first podium in a one-day race at WorldTour level."

Georg Zimmermann from Intermarche - Wanty finished third in the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race behind the victorious Laurence Pithie and Natnael Tesfatsion. The man from Augsburg was actually sent into the race to ride as a helper for his leader Biniam Girmay, who, however, missed the connection a little and ended up in 22nd place at the end of the race.

"After the last Challambra crossing, I was fully focused on the sprint, firstly in case Biniam Girmay would return to the leading group and then because the descent was not suitable for attacks," Zimmermann explained after the race, as RSN reports, why he did not take part in the pace work in the finale.

All in all, Georg Zimmermann is very satisfied with his performance, after he had come dangerously close to the two riders in front of him at the end of the sprint, just half a bike length behind:

"I'm very proud of my first podium in a one-day race at WorldTour level. I was less than a bike length away from victory, but I have no regrets. I gave my best and I'm happy with this fantastic performance," he summarized the result.
