Rigoberto Urán will be riding his ninth
Tour de France, with a role that is undefined however with open expectations to target the overall classification. He's talked about his expectations ahead of the race.
“The best cyclists are here. The teams come prepared with everything, the new material, the new bikes. Everyone is focused on the Tour de France. You see the new developments. Everybody is watching. The level is very high," he said.
EF Education-EasyPost has a team dedicated to stage wins with the likes of Neilson Powless, Ruben Guerreiro and Magnus Cort Nielsen as strong wildcards. Urán can be another option if he looses time on the opening week.
Urán however, a three-time podium finisher in Grand Tours, aknowledges the difficulties that come with the race. “Each stage is tough. The runners, the masseurs, the mechanics, everyone is focused and nervous for 21 days. Every second is important," he said. "It is nice. It's very different, starting in Denmark and not in France is something different, but especially here it's good because there are a lot of fans in Denmark
“We will take it day by day. It's one moth. First you have to be lucky and then be healthy. You make a strategy, but you have to take it day by day. The most important thing is to sleep well," Urán concluded.
