INEOS Grenadiers still have a contract with Tom Pidcock for several more seasons but it is quite noticeable that the relations are not as bright as in the past. Whilst he became Olympic MTB champion once again, on the road he has been far from the expectations and far from giving the value of his huge salary. There are credible reports that a transfer already this winter could potentially happen...
The Olympic Mountain Bike champion, who is also one of the biggest talents in cycling at the age of 25, has many suitors in the market... This Friday Gazzetta dello Sport's Ciro Scognamiglio and Daniel Friebe have both written that there is a very big interest from ProTeam Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team to sign the Briton. As pointed out by Benji Naesen, the team owner recently bought the Pinarello bike brand which sponsors INEOS; and is a personal sponsor of Pidcock alongside Red Bull.
"Sources confirm to us that Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team is interested in signing Tom Pidcock for the 2025 season," Scognamiglio writes. "A source close to the Swiss team told us that 'it's possible'. Talks are already underway at the moment." This rift between Pidcock and INEOS has seemingly been fixed over the past couple of months, but before the Tour de France it seemed to be stronger than ever as Pidcock said that only he chose which goals he would have at the Tour. Later on he would retract these words; but didn't play a role in the race as he abandoned after also not showing good form; not racing for the overall classification but also not being able to put much work into the team's GC goals.
The bombshell would be tremendous. Pidcock would go from being one of the biggest names in one of the strongest teams in the World Tour, to the two-year old Swiss team that is looking to reinforce itself into next season. Tudor has signed Marc Hirschi, Julian Alaphilippe and is said to be on the brink of announcing Kasper Asgreen; but it seems like it's fellow Swiss team has equally high ambitions of signing big figures.
I like Pidcock and think he still has a lot of potential, IF he sticks to road only. If not then yes they might be better without him. He is still only 25 but it is time to pay back INEOS for the faith they have shown in him. He is one of the very few in the squad who can challenge for a win so I am sure they will not let go that easily. Anyway it's just rumours at the moment!
Nothing wrong with ONLY winning some classics, and grand tour stages on the side while being the planet's best mountain biker and one of the best cross racers. He's totally worth the money. He doesn't owe Ineos anything he's not already given them. He's given them world titles and Olympic gold
Don't disagree with what your saying but at the same time the teams biggest need at the moment is road wins and Pidcock is one of the few who can provide them.
I tend to agree. He’s won Tour stages, one day classics and so much off road. But it’s hard to have so many masters
Erm, THAT salary is not to continue being the world’s best MTBiker, ask Hatherly, Koretzky or the world’s best track, cyclocross, bmxers, gravellers, etc., and in the grand scheme of things I reckon MTB figures amongst the lower ranks of these currently.
Was great to see Pidcock put in another really strong performance and fighting for the win at the worlds elite mens road race 🤣 The only people still hyping him up are the British press. For the sake of Ineos and chance for the team to return to form I sincerely hope these rumours are true.
This may be the best Pidcock has and that's ok. Snatching occasion big wins on the road while being the planet's best mountain biker isn't so terrible.
