Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale signs one of Visma's most talented climbers

Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale has announced the signing of Norwegian cyclist Johannes Staune-Mittet for 2025. This is a surprising signing taking into consideration the rider's development at Team Visma | Lease a Bike where he was slowly developing into a rider with a tremendous potential.

Mittet, just 22 years old, won the 2023 Giro Next Gen and a stage of the 2023 Tour of the Czech Republic. His last season at Visma Lease a Bike has not been too bright, not having counted for any major and now he will be looking for a chance to shine in the French team, which sees Ben O'Connor and Valentin Paret-Peintre depart at the end of this season but is more and more being able to show itself in the mountains after a rough few years.

The cyclist, of course, is delighted to be joining such a powerful project as Decathlon: "Obviously, I’m very excited! I have to say that I’m really grateful to the team for trusting me with this opportunity. This project offers me a great chance to improve myself in the best possible way, and I’m looking forward to being a part of it, meeting all the new people and learning how the team works."

It is a three-year contract where there is plenty room to develop and possibly even become a leader in the future; in a team that races a vast calendar both at World Tour level but also in the French local events which often present terrain favourable towards the climbers. "I chose DECATHLON AG2R LA MONDIALE to continue to progress, and I think this is the best place to do so. My long-term goal is to continue to grow and become the best rider I can be. In the short term, I’m looking forward to supporting the team leaders, and if the opportunity presents itself, I hope to achieve good results and represent the jersey in the best possible way," he concluded.
