Axel Zingle started the
Famenne Ardenne Classic as one of the favourites, and he kept proving his level as he stormed to the win in the final sprint, in what was an explosive uphill sprint.
“I am very happy with this victory," Zingle said in a post-race interview. "It's been a few weeks that I have a somewhat random shape and I found my feelings. Today I felt great. I’m happy to have negotiated this final well." After taking wins at La Route Adélie de Vitré and the Arctic Race of Norway, the neo-pro kept impressing with his third win of the season.
The likes of Tim Merlier and Arnaud De Lie were in the peloton, but found obstacles riding towards the line. Nevertheless, Zingle had to battle with the likes of Arkéa Samsic duo of Amaury Capiot and Hugo Hofstetter, and Oliver Naesen who rode into second place. Zingle started his sprint late and from the wheel of Hofstetter, who didn't have the power and rode into fourth, whilst Zingle stormed through to go over Capiot at the line.
"It was tortuous, it started to narrow 1.5 km from the finish and you had to be placed early;" the Frenchman described. "In the last meters, it opened up in front of me and I arrived with more speed. I saw that I was going to win and I was able to savor a little more."
