Astana suspend Miguel Ángel López amidst drug trafficking investigation

Miguel Ángel López has been linked to a case of illegal medicine distribution from Colombia to Spain and is currently under close eye from the police, and the news spread like wildfire as now López is currently being suspended from racing until further notice.

The news came as a shock last night as Ciclo21 reported that he is suspected of the crime of distribution of medicines that are not authorized in Spain in connections with doctor Marcos Maynar Mariño, who is being investigated for alleged crimes of drug trafficking and money laundering.

Maynar has been associated with former Portuguese LA - MSS team which was was raided and at the time - in 2008 - had several doping substances seized. The investigation is ongoing but it has already had it's consequences as the Astana rider was intercepted whilst travelling back to Europe.

As a consequence, Astana Qazaqstan Team have already taken to social media to inform that the Colombian rider has been suspended until "the circumstances of the case are clarified".
