Of the seven Portuguese cyclists competing in the World Tour in 2023, André Carvalho is the only one without a contract for 2023 and according to the newspaper "O Jogo", the 25-year-old will be leaving both the Cofidis team and cycling's highest echelon.
The report points to a return to Portugal as the most likely destination for the youngster from Vila Nova de Famalicão, specifically to Sabgal (Glassdrive Q8 Anicolor's new name for 2024). Carvalho will be looking to fight for individual results, which no ProTour team offers him, so the Portuguese team should be André Carvalho's new home.
This news confirms the statement made by Carlos Pereira, Team Manager of Clube Desportivo FullRacing, to Lusa in which he stated his ambition to take Sabgal up to the Pro-Tour level by 2026, after three years with the new sponsor. At the time, Carlos Pereira mentioned the team's increased budget for 2024 and that it would be reflected in the signing of two Portuguese cyclists abroad, which seems to be coming true.
