Iserbyt started the final lap behind
Lars van der Haar, but a late burst fired him to victory in brilliant style. It wasn't the first time Iserbyt had tried an attack but on each previous occasion a mistake had left him back where he started. "It was of course super smooth, but I didn't ride with the heaviest profile because the rest of the course curved very well. So then it's really slipping and sliding. The tracks also changed every lap, so we didn't know whether to drive left, right or in the middle. That made it very tricky," he explains.
"I knew I had to sit on those hills in front of Lars in the last lap and I managed that just fine. After that I could just ride at my own pace. Moreover, I drove a very good stretch and that made the difference," he concludes, with an eye towards next weekend. "I am certainly not the favourite at the European Championships. That is Thibau Nys realistically speaking. It's good that I can go to the European Championships without the role of favourite for once."
