Second time on the gravel and second victory for Alejandro Valverde. The legendary Spanish climber retired from road peloton in last autumn, but never really planned to sit back and relax. Instead he started to write his story in off-road events, all that while wearing Movistar Team's special gravel kit.
“It was a very demanding race. They told me it required a lot pedalling. Which was true, but there were also technical parts. All in all, I'm happy, I had a lot of fun. At the beginning, in the leading group, I also got to talk a little with my colleagues. Then, in the final part, I managed to go clear and win," Valverde briefly summarized the race for Marca.
In 2022 La Ranxo was won by Carlos Verona, another Movistar rider who, when he can, likes to put himself to the test in gravel racing.
