Van der Breggen stimulates Vollering: "After a congratulatory gif, she immediately told me that I had taken the last gel too late"

Demi Vollerign is riding the season of her life, yet she keeps on dreaming even bigger. In a recent interview for Helden Magazine she states that she'd like to one day become a World and Olympic Champion, win the Tour de France and more. She also talks about the important people in her life that helped her get to her current level.

She likes Mathieu van der Poel and Tadej Pogacar and their way of racing. She still has to take steps herself to sit on the bike in such a relaxed way. "I still have days when I need that kick in the butt. When so much was coming at me in that week after Liege, I didn't feel like getting on my bike. Jan then prepares my bicycle. Then I see him inflating my tires and I think: okay, I'll just go for a while," says Vollering.

Her husband Jan de Voogd is an important part of the success. Vollering builds on him. "If I don't feel like doing some interviews, he can say, 'Demi, this is really good to do, just go.'"

In that respect, Vollering, De Voogd and her coach Anna van der Breggen form a perfect trio. Van der Breggen constantly keeps her sharp. "Anna wasn't there in Liège, but texted me in the evening. She sent a congratulatory gif, and immediately afterwards that I had taken my last gel too late and that I had taken a lot of risks. I had let the last group ride too far before the climb. I can enjoy Anna's comments, I'm with the team to get better, and there is still room for improvement."
