It has taken Michael Matthews just two races to get his first victory of 2024. The Australian star triumphed on Sunday afternoon at the Gran Premio Castellón.
"My legs were really good today," admitted the 33-year-old post-race in conversation with the social media of his Team Jayco AlUla, having sprinted to victory ahead of the likes of Pierre Gautherat and Alex Aranburu in Spain.
Just one day prior, Matthews had been a key cog in helping teammate Dylan Groenewegen open his account for 2024 at the Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana. "For me, yesterday was harder than today," Matthews admits.
"But my team did amazing. We rode our race, we rode the way wanted to win the race, we took control and yeah, I was able to sprint to the line like I've shown that I can in the past. A nice way to start the season!"
