The worst seems to have been avoided for both Fem van Empel and Eli Iserbyt. Both Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal riders abandoned the Val di Sole World Cup race last week following crashes in the snow, but any meaningful injuries did not come to light.
Upon her return to the Netherlands, women's World Cup leader van Empel was examined in a hospital which revealed no fractures or major injuries. “Her left leg is bruised and there is fluid in both knees. It will be a matter of waiting day by day whether she can start in Gavere on Monday”, team manager Jurgen Mettepenningen said.
Her lead in the standings is big enough to sustain even if she misses out on one or two weeks of competition. As she is not focusing on the Superprestige and X2O Trofee cups, there is more freedom to let go of racing for the time being and be conservative.
As for Eli Iserbyt the update is relatively shallow, but it is said that he has travelled to Spain alongside some of his teammates to continue training ahead of the Christmas block. Although he has lost crucial points after abandoning in Val di Sole, it is expected that the Belgian has also escaped serious damage to his knee.
