Eli Iserbyt has taken the victory in a very exciting edition of Superprestige Niel, with Joris Nieuwenhuis being forced to settle for second after a late error and Felipe Orts completing the podium.
The conditions were brutally muddy and wet with Lars van der Haar and Ryan Kamp both early casualties and going down on the first lap. The frontrunners early on though were Eli Iserbyt and Joris Nieuwenhuis. As the leading duo began to ride clear, the number of riders behind getting into trouble was growing.
After Nieuwenhuis himself hit the deck momentarily towards the end of lap 3, Laurens Sweeck was the nearest challenger at 9 seconds behind the front duo. More bad luck then befell van der Haar with a potentially dislocated shoulder, whilst towards the front of the race, Felipe Orts has overtaken Sweeck for third.
The victory though was to be between Iserbyt and Nieuwenhuis it looked like, as they entered the final lap. As the Dutchman made a mistake on the remount following a bike change, Iserbyt began to press home an advantage.
As Nieuwenhuis desperately tried to get back in touch, the fatigue was beginning to show and more slight errors followed meaning it was Iserbyt of Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal who added a 42nd career cyclocross victory to his palmares.
