Juan Ayuso had built his entire season around the Giro d'Italia. He was extremely successful early on, winning Tirreno-Adriatico and performing greatly; and then riding strongly at the start of the Corsa Rosa. But a couple of crashes derailed his season which now stays very open.
The Spaniard, according to AS, has in the meantime returned to training after his Giro disaster and will be staying with UAE Team Emirates for next season with virtual certainty; however the Spanish news outlet points out that this is next season and it doesn't consider the other years of his contract. Most likely, obviously after missing out on the Tour de France, he would return to his big goals for Clàsica San Sebastián.
Ayuso will not race the national championships in Granada this weekend, even taking into consideration that the time-trial is a climb up in the Sierra Nevada area; but he will be focusing on San Sebastián and Pologne; later on the Canadian classics and will certainly put a lot of emphasis on the late season one-day races. The World Championships are an absolute goal where he should be one of Spain's best weapons to chase down a medal.
The European Championships will also be one and later in the year it's likely that he will at some point be racing in Italy and team up with Tadej Pogacar at Il Lombardia - their first teaming up since last year's Tour de France. Afterwards Ayuso could still be racing the Tour of Guangxi in the hunt for more leadership and high-quality victories to finish offf the season. The Vuelta a España is also out of the picture but the Spaniard should still be able to hunt for several victories in the same way that João Almeida, Adam Yates and Isaac del Toro have had.
