Alpecin - Deceuninck rider
Ceylin Del Carmen Alvarado won the
Superprestige Heusden-Zolder. This is her third victory of the season.
She was able to take the lead at the start, but it was not easy.“I found the first two laps were quite tough to get to the front,” Alvarado said in the post-race interview. She continues,“ At every corner, there were always riders who just tried to squeak for it, so I had to close a gap later. When the holes were finally a bit bigger, and I could set the pace myself, it went better and better until I was the strongest left at the end.”
Inge van der Heijden was proving to be a tough competition for her. “She was also very strong but had to let go at one point. Then I had no choice but to continue to the line on my own. I think I was the strongest rider in the race, I had more power on the climbs, and I could use that to get rid of Van der Heijden,” explained Alvarado.
However, she managed to drop Heijden in the fourth lap and take the lead for herself. This marks her third victory of the season. “From then on, I wanted to ride alone because I know it feels really good when you cross the line alone. This is a very important win. I feel a bit stronger now than before my break. Hopefully, I can now continue my good form into the championship period.” concluded Alvarado.
