Wout van Aert outsprints Mathieu van der Poel to thrilling win in Heusden-Zolder

Wout van Aert has won Superprestige Heusden-Zolder. He beat Mathieu van der Poel to the finish line to celebrate his third victory of the season.

Thijs Aerts had a nice start. Mathieu van der Poel was being aggressive from the start and soon found himself in the lead. Wout van Aert decided to follow the Dutchman. The duo managed to create a considerable gap in the first lap.

Tom Pidcock, Michael Vanthourenhout and Quinten Hermans were 20 seconds behind the duo. The trio rode together for three laps before Pidcock decided to drop the others, including cup leader Laurens Sweeck. Both Van Aert and Van der Poel were trying their best to get a small gap on each other.

Lars van der Haar was able to catch up with Pidcock in the final lap. The situation between van Aert and Van der Poel was getting tenser as no one was showing signs of slowing down. Wout van Aert managed to beat Mathieu van der Poel in the final sprint and secure the victory as the Dutchman suffered a mechanical in the sprint. Mathieu van der Poel finished second. Lars van der Haar took the bronze.
