Jonas Vingegaard springed to the big screens at the 2021
Tour de France as he emerged as
Jumbo-Visma's new Grand Tour star, however little did he know that he would be taking a leading position at Jumbo-Visma after a monstruous 2022 season, in which he's placed himself above
Primoz Roglic.
“I trust the team in who they want to go with. And that will be the best team," Vingegaard told In de Leiderstrui following the team presentation in Amsterdam, regarding the Tour de France. Roglic, Tobias Foss, Jan Tratnik and Wilco Kelderman will all be heading to Italy, whilst Vingegaard will have the likes of Wout van Aert, Sepp Kuss and Dylan van Baarle riding in support of his yellow ambitions in July. He will return to the Tour de France to try and defend his title, now as a sole leader.
"It gives me more pressure that I am now the only leader. But I never experience pressure from the outside, only the ones I put on myself. But Primoz took me along in everything, he was my mentor. That will change now," the Dane stated.
Having crowned himself as a premier climber in the peloton, riding to victory at the Tour after topping Tadej Pogacar, it was another display of hard-to-match climbing prowess. His mentor Roglic will be eyeing the pink jersey in May, however Vingegaard is the rising start within the Dutch team who seems to be more set to stay at the top.
