Mathieu van der Poel started with a nice lead. Wout van Aert and Tom Pidcock were just behind the Dutchman. Van der Poel encountered a flat tire, which gave van Aert a chance to take the lead for himself.
However, it was not long before Pidcock, and van der Poel caught up with Van Aert. The trio rode together for some time before van der Poel dropped the duo and created a gap of 10 seconds.
There was no way Van Aert was going down without a fight. He attacked and left Pidcock behind. By the last lap, van der Poel enjoyed a lead of 13 seconds over van Aert. Pidcock was 24 seconds behind the Dutchman.
