The current cyclocross World Cup format is not appealing to Sven Nys. The number of World Cups this season is 14, which Nys finds excessive.
According to Nys, a World Cup every week does not help the sport, and the federation should reduce the number to eight. "Dublin as a World Cup was top. Beautiful venue and a super nice atmosphere. If we now also ensure that there are only eight World Cups, the federations and riders will surely all come too. Now other countries are staying home. A WB every week is killing our sport,” he wrote on Twitter. To support his point, he attached a picture containing data of participants, 27 women and 39 men.
As KNWU released its selection for the next World Cup with a smaller team than last week, the Belgian quickly tweeted, "Does anyone actually realise this is going completely wrong? I hold my heart for the number of participants next week."
