Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte rode to a dominant one-two win at Gent Wevelgem but in the opinion of Michel Wuyts the chase of the peloton left a lot to be desired.
"I can't imagine that they are very satisfied with the way things are going," Wuyts says of the race organisers on the Wuyts & Vlaeminck podcast. "I cannot imagine that you are satisfied with the display of the opposition."
"Were there any other teams in the race than Jumbo-Visma?" He questions. "And how lousy can you appear as a peloton. Two ride away and almost nothing happens. There was no solidarity, there was no defense team. It's a kind of resignation and that's why they weren't involved anymore."
His podcast partner, Stijn Vlaeminck however takes a different view on the Gent-Wevelgem outcome. "Maybe that's a good comparison of how Van Aert looks at Gent-Wevelgem compared to the Tour of Flanders. 'Winning together' is Jumbo-Visma 's motto and that is clearly reflected here."
