Vuelta a Espana stage 6 crashes take more victims - Andreas Kron forced to abandon due to concussion

Stage 6 of the Vuelta a España was a day marked by the strong pace at the start and the impressive triumph of Ben O'Connor which propelled him to the red jersey. However many riders suffered the consequences of the technical route and there have been plenty crashes. Today one less rider takes to the start: Andreas Kron who's had a very strong start to the race.

"Andreas will unfortunately not start in stage 7 of the Vuelta today. He was involved in a crash yesterday and sustained a concussion," Lotto Dstny wrote in a social media post this morning. "He’s letting everyone know that he is really sad to have to leave the team here. We wish him a speedy recovery".

Kron was not alone as riders affected by falls during the day included Adam Yates and Lorenzo Fortunato; whilst riders such as Rigoberto Urán also had to abandon due to fall; and even second placed rider on the day went down whilst riding by himself in the final kilometers of the stage.

For the Belgian team, it is an important loss as the team is having Lennert van Eetvelt in terrific form and within a shot of fighting for the final podium, if he remains consistent. Kron impressed on the climb to Pico Villuercas, finishing 14th on the day, ahead of some very talented climbers, despite not being one himself. But the Dane will not have the chance to further prove his form in this race.
